Home Automation and Structured Wiring
by Brandon Lord
You may have never thought how a home automation system worked using structured wiring. Then you could be very interested and have thought about it a lot. Technology has evolved making a home automation system more accessible. These systems can control many things in the home or just a few elements. Some examples are the internal and external lights, home security systems, window blinds, thermostats, entertainment systems and appliances. Structured wiring is a way to distribute a home automation system either throughout a house or in an area of a home. A home automation system is added to an area when a home is being built, which is the best way to accomplish this. It is less mess and cost a little less as well. Otherwise, it is possible to add the wiring for a home automation system to a house that is already built. It is a lot more work and mess as well as costing more. One home automation element that many may not think of when they list elements of home automation is a security system. This automation system is set up with motion sensors in such areas as windows or doors. An alarm sounds when there is movement and the alarm is set. There is an access code used by the home owner to set the alarm system. Once it is set or taken off line then it is not to be bothered with anymore. It is set to do the job. Having a set security system will prevent intruders from entering the home. If the alarm sounds a remote monitoring area will contact the correct authorities. Then there will be officers at the home quickly. This is also true if there is a fire. The monitoring station can notify the fire department to go to the house and get to work. Home automation is starting to become popular and more common. It is becoming helpful as well for those with a disability, handicap or those that are elderly. A home automation system can help these individuals to have more freedom. Many things are done for them. Water sprinklers can be set up to turn on and off at certain times, for example. Another thing to consider with home automation is keeping children safe. It can help keep children safe, such as by having the doors locks so curious children do not leave the home. Having a home automation system can be expensive, but there are various types for different budgets. Nevertheless, since a home automation system can set the thermostat and other utilities to a certain level it could save money. Water, gas, sewage and electric bills can all be less since the home has utility control. Deciding on a full automation system or just elements depends on what you need as well as what you want. Keep everything in mind including any savings you may have by using the home automation system.
