Yesterday's Concerns About Home Security Systems Gone Today
by Laila Jefferson
Thinking about an alarm system for your home? Maybe you've considered it in the past and decided there were too many pitfalls to make it worth the time and money. If this sounds like you or your family, worried about home security but not sure an alarm is the right choice, then it may be time to take a look at how technology has improved these highly effective systems. Here are some of the top 'used to be true' facts about home security systems, and how things have improved today.
The wiring system in the home has to be redone. Today, this is simply not true. While it can be redone, it's often only best to go with a wired system if it's being installed in a home you official own, or one that's being built. The easiest systems to install are wireless systems, which can be quickly done by an installation specialist or by you! These wireless systems afford certain freedoms like more flexibility in placing units around the home.
The small screens and keypads are hard to use. In the past, it was quite true that the keypads were rudimentary and the screens no better than a calculator on many control units. Today, the screens are large, clear and easy to use, and many systems can even be controlled with a remote control for easy access no matter where in the home you are. This feature is especially helpful for those with mobility issues, or those who simply don't want to have to get out of bed to double check the status of their home security system!
The wires are easy to cut anyway, meaning burglars can simply disarm the system. In the past, landline alarm systems may have been easy to override, but today with a range of system types it's far more challenging. Some systems run by the internet, some by wireless internet and some through a cellular phone connection. Most burglars have no idea how to tell which system is which, and therefore aren't willing to take the chance on a home labeled as protected by such a system. It is also possible to have systems with secondary means of communications and contact, meaning that even if someone thinks they have outsmarted technology, modern technology will still get the best of them!
It's too much money for a simple alarm. Today, home security systems aren't just about bells and whistles. Today, a system can provide not only protection and detection against intruders, but factors like flood and fire. They can also have panic buttons and emergency buttons, helpful for those living independently with medical or mobility issues, which can be pushed from anywhere in the house to summon emergency medical or security personnel at any time of day or night. A monitored system is a great choice for any family or homeowner to immediately summon emergency personnel no matter what the emergency. Even when you're not home to defend your fortress, top security professionals will be at all times!
