Organizing Your Kitchen - 6 Tips to Help You Have a Clutter-Free Kitchen

by Carolyn Anderson

The kitchen is one part of the house that is indeed prone to clutter and mess, as a lot of activities are done in the kitchen, thus organizing your kitchen and keeping it clean is important.

Moreover, there can be a lot of items used in the kitchen and thus requires a lot of storage as well as a proper system. To help you in organizing your kitchen, here are some ideas and tips to help you start with the task and make it a lot easier.

1. To inspire you to organize your kitchen and remove all the clutter in it, find magazines and web resources where you can find ideas on how you want your kitchen to be organized. Sometimes we just need to see some clutter-free and well-organized kitchen to keep us motivated to the task. This will also help you plan and visualize the kind of organization you want for your kitchen.

2. Set a time only for organizing your kitchen. As the kitchen involves many items for organizing, it is helpful indeed to set a particular time for this task alone. This way, you will not leave the task unfinished. Of course, the kitchen is one place where you just can't discard extra things as we often have extra plates, extra cups and saucers and those china for future use, thus a lot of storing and organizing is needed in this part of the house.

3. Sort out items in the kitchen that are not anymore usable. Even if you can't discard those extra items in your kitchen, you can however get rid of things that does not serve its purpose anymore, or those things that are already broken, pots and pans without handles, containers that do not anymore have lids, and those many other empty bottles. You may want to also clean your refrigerator from stale items as well.

4. Organize your kitchen stuff according to the types of foods. You may want to put all spices in one place and canned goods in another. If you are using identical containers, you may want to label foods as well, especially those that look similar with one another. Sugar and tea, salt and sugar and many other items that can be mistaken for the other should be labeled.

5. Keep those frequently used items within reach. In organizing your kitchen, it helps a lot in placing those pots, pans and utensils that are frequently used. Put those less used items on the higher or hard to reach areas of your kitchen cabinets.

6. Drawer dividers will help you separate groups of utensils from one another. This will also help you in efficiently using your kitchen storage spaces especially when you are dealing with small items and utensils. You can also display your china as part of the interior decoration for your kitchen but keep in mind not to overstuff your china cabinet as it may not also look appealing.

One challenge in organizing your kitchen is when to start it. Sometimes so many things can rob your attention away from making your kitchen clutter-free, but by organizing a little each day or every time you get to work in the kitchen, you can start your kitchen organization and work towards a clutter-free kitchen.
